Who we are

The Changes in Adolescent Risk, Resilience, and Emotions (CARE) Lab is a research group dedicated to understanding the emotional lives of adolescents, particularly those at risk for severe mental illnesses (SMI) such as schizophrenia. We are a team of scientists, clinicians, and trainees united by a shared commitment to uncover how emotional processes, reward systems, and early experiences influence both vulnerability and resilience during adolescence.

At the CARE Lab, we combine rigorous scientific methods with a real-world perspective, using clinical interviews, behavioral assessments, neuroimaging, eye-tracking, facial expression analysis, and computational modeling to explore these questions. Our work spans from basic research on emotion and development to applied efforts aimed at early identification, intervention, and prevention.

We believe that understanding adolescence—the challenges, changes, and opportunities it brings—can guide strategies that help young people thrive. Together, we aim to bridge science and practice, translating insights about risk and resilience into knowledge that supports adolescent well-being.
