Dr. Tina Gupta, PhD —Lab Director
Dr. Tina Gupta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Oregon, where she directs the CARE Lab (Changes in Adolescent Risk and Emotions Lab). She researches when, how, and why youth develop severe mental illness, with a particular focus on negative symptoms such as anhedonia. Drawing on developmental psychopathology, affective neuroscience, and clinical psychology, her work aims to inform early identification, prevention strategies, and intervention. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, camping, gardening, and cooking.
Graduate Students
Katerina Konstas, B.A. — Clinical Psychology
Katerina earned her B.A. in Psychology and Political Science from Simmons University and previously worked as a Research Assistant at McLean Hospital’s Laboratory for Early Psychosis Center under Dr. Dost Ongur. Her research focuses on risk and protective factors involved in the development of serious mental illness, particularly how social stress and adolescent development shape symptoms such as blunted affect, anhedonia, suicidal ideation, and non-suicidal self-injury. Ultimately, she hopes this work will support more effective interventions for youth at risk of serious mental illness. Outside of the lab, she enjoys reading, painting, and exploring Oregon with friends.
Annalise Halverson, M.A. — Clinical Psychology
Annalise earned an MA in Psychology from the University of Chicago, as well as an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Kent, England. Most recently, she worked with Dr. Julia Sheffield at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she helped lead recruitment for an R01 assessing belief updating in persecutory delusions. She remains interested in the subjective experience of psychosis, with a growing focus on how identity and emotion disturbances intersect in adolescence. When not in the lab, she enjoys discovering new hikes, deepening her yoga practice, and lounging with her cat!
Madison Stevens, B.A. — Clinical Psychology
Madison earned her B.A. in Psychology and Sociology/Anthropology from Lake Forest College. Following graduation, she worked as a Research Coordinator in the Adolescent Development and Preventative Treatment Lab at Northwestern University, where she contributed to longitudinal research examining biomarkers and clinical predictors of psychosis risk in adolescents and young adults. Her research interests focus on understanding how disruptions in emotional experience, social functioning, and the family environment contribute to risk for serious mental illness (SMI) during adolescence, with the goal of identifying mechanisms that can inform early intervention. Outside of the lab, Madison enjoys staying active, playing beach volleyball, and spending time outdoors.
Gavin Schneider, MA — Clinical Psychology
Gavin earned his B.A. from Portland State University, where he was an NIH-funded BUILD EXITO Research Scholar. He completed his M.S. at the University of Oregon in June 2026. His previous research involved threat-related memory communication, the effects of loving-kindness meditation, and linking post-traumatic anhedonia to mesolimbic circuit connectivity. Gavin's interests include serious mental illness symptom development and neurobiological responses to prosocial and threat-related experiences. Outside of research, Gavin enjoys hiking, reading, road trips, and going to the movies.
Graduate Student Collaborators
Saee Chitale
Saee earned her B.A. in Neuroscience and Behavior from Mount Holyoke College in 2022. Following this, she worked as a full-time clinical research coordinator at the Dauten Family Center for Bipolar Treatment Innovation in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Saee is broadly interested in the impact of stressful experiences and social environments on negative symptoms such as anhedonia. She aims to integrate social, physiological, and behavioral perspectives to understand risk and resilience factors as well as progression of serious mental illnesses (SMI) during adolescence. Outside of research, Saee enjoys dancing, outdoor activities, board game nights with friends, and cooking!
Undergraduate Research Assistants
Eleanor Struve
Eleanor is a fourth-year student majoring in Psychology and General Social Science with a minor in women’s gender and sexuality studies. She is passionate about making a difference in people’s lives through preventative research and intervention. Eleanor plans to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology after undergrad. Outside of school she interns at the Center for Community Counseling and enjoys running. !
Piper Pellegrino
Piper was born and raised in Yamhill, Oregon and is currently an undergraduate student working towards a B.S. In psychology. After graduating from the University of Oregon, she hopes to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology. Outside of the lab, she loves to read, work out, and spend time with friends and family.
